Question: What is the policy on photos? Is downloading and hotlinking to images on this website permitted?

High-Quality photos may be viewed online for free and downloaded only from this website.

Downloading them is permitted when the download button is chosen in the options underneath each photo.Mass-downloading of images is not permitted because it uses additional resources and makes the website workmore slowly for the rest of the users. Mass-downloading is defined as one entity (could be a person or robot) who downloads onepicture right after the other one finishes, or worse, they could download multiple pictures at once and download another huge set of pictures immediately after, and simultaneously.Please contact us directly with a reason if mass-downloading is necessary.

Hotlinking to pictures on this website is not permitted. Hotlinking is where one pages outside of this domain contain any number of direct links to any number of our images. If we didn't act on this and 1,000 websites hotlinked 10,000 images each, and 500websites were used every hour, the poor people who visit us will suffer greatly because according to math, we are dealing with 10,000 images at an average file size of 300 KB each and 500 sites. So 500 times 10,000 equals 5,000,000. That's 5 million.We multiply that by 300 KB. (or 300,000 bytes). That equals 1,500,000,000 KB or 1.5 TB. That's right! We have to be able to handle at least 1.5 Terabytes (or 1500 gigabytes) of data to process all those images to all those hotlinkers all in that one hour or we would surely crash and disappoint the nice users who actuallyvisit us here to view the photos.

If hotlinking is desired, then the device requesting the image will be downloading a much lower-quality one at best with text attached to it instructing whoever is viewing it to visit this website. We do this to save resources, as hotlinking is an expensive act to manage, and we explained why above.The advantage to this is that we have to handle less data from the hotlinkers. Webpages with image requests that are currently hotlinking to us will be downloading pictures with a file size at roughly 15KB. If we used the example above of 500 websites wanting 10,000 images each per hour, we would multiply 500 by 10,000 again. Obviously that is 5 million.But this time, we times 5 million by 15KB (or 15,000 bytes). That equals 75,000,000 KB or only 75 GB. Thats less than one tenth of a terabyte, and it also satisfies some server bandwidth limitations for web hosting. Additionally, it allows true clubcatcher guests to enjoy photos without waitingforever for them! It's a win-win situation!
